China has called on the U.S. and North Korea to resume denuclearization talks. On Sunday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the U.S. and North Korea must “talk the talk” and “walk the walk” if they want to achieve peace on the Korean Peninsula.
He added both sides must build mutual trust and break the lingering stalemate.
According to the foreign minister, the U.S. and North Korea should deliver practical results on achieved agreements.
“We have seen some positive steps taken by the DPRK in the last few years toward de-escalation and denuclearization. Regrettably, these steps have not been reciprocated in a substantive way by the U.S. side. This is the main reason for the ongoing stalemate in the DPRK-U.S. dialogue.” – Wang Yi, Chinese Foreign Minister
Beijing then appeared to blame the U.S. for faltering talks with North Korea, despite Pyongyang’s questionable behavior after direct talks with President Trump back in 2018.
